RSS - SCADA Configuration Management (RSS-SCM)

The RSS-SCM module combines the object attachment features along with our powerful workflow engine to streamline the processing of managing the configuration of devices in your SCADA system.

The easy to use interface allows users to create devices and attach configuration files in place of settings. A configuration workflow can then be run to control access to the file while various individuals are working with that device. Engineers can easily locate a device and download its active configuration, or draft a new one. Managers can view an overview of work through the standard workflow summary screens.

Configuration Integrity
When a device configuration file is uploaded to RSS-SCM, it is automatically signed with a digital signature. This signature, which is transparent to the users, prevents unauthorized modification of the file. In addition, access to the file is control by RSS' powerful security framework.
Audit Trails and Non-Repudiation
At every step in the SCM workflow, a details audit trail is recorded of user actions. As users sign off on their work, their digital signature is recorded along with a date/time stamp and any additional notes they entered. This feature provides non-repudiation: unforgeable proof that a given step of the workflow has been performed.
Document Attachments
As with other entities in RSS, any file can be directly attached to the device. SCADA manuals, technical drawings, and other schematics are always available through the document manager module.
Workflow
The same workflow engine that can control and manage your settings change process is used in the RSS-SCM module. The workflow engine implements a process specific to your company, providing efficiency and accountability at every stage of work. A sample workflow is as follows:
  • Initiate: An engineer initiates a workflow process on a given device.  The configuration is then downloaded and modified by the engineer.
  • Configure: After the engineer has completed work on that device, the configuration is uploaded back to RSS-SCM and device submitted for review.
  • Review: A reviewer is automatically notified of the pending device via email. This user logs on to RSS, opens the device, and after verifying the new configuration, approves the configuration.
  • Apply: After being approved, the appropriate field user is automatically notified of the pending configuration. While this user is applying the configuration, the file can not be modified by any other user.
  • Archive: After applying the new configuration, the field user records any notes and submits the final configuration. Engineers, reviewers, and other users are automatically notified that the work has been completed. The previous active configuration is archived and new configuration is set as active.
